The Canadian University/College Championship at Firerock Golf Course wrapped up with the Heat women's golf team missing the final round cut. All three UBCO golfers carded rounds during the tournament with strong individual performances on the wet course.
In a tournament where all teams play the first three days, then the top six play the fourth and final round, the Heat women came up just short of playing in the last round, shooting an overall +118 (775) for 10th spot.
Samantha Copeland finished with the low score for the Heat with a 54-hole total of +35 (254), but that score was a few strokes shy of carrying on as an individual.
The two other Heat women missed the Friday cut as well, as third-year McKenna Lesiukj shot +41 overall, and Rebecca Reitsma shot +42.
Copeland found the course in Komoka, Ontario tough, and because it was very wet it played a lot longer.
Although not securing the result she would have liked, the first-year golfer from Calgary cherished the opportunity to compete in the prestigious event.
"I was definitely disappointed," said Copeland. "I was happy with my second round but a bit frustrated with the other two rounds. However, the course was playing really tough, and there were some very good teams that we were playing against. Overall we had lots of fun though and learned a lot. I'm very grateful for the opportunity."
