VICTORIA — In their best performance of the season the Heat women's golf team finished runners-up at the Vikes Shootout at Cordova Bay Golf Club.
The women would hold off the Fraser Valley Cascades by one shot as the two teams went back-and-forth all weekend long in brisk conditions on Vancouver Island.
Victoria's women's team would take home the team title (+40) while the Heat finished at (+60) and the Cascades at (+61) for the 36-hole tournament. Calgary would also feature and finished in the fourth spot at (+116).
Kayleigh Trowman and Chloe Sies both played consistent golf all weekend long and would finish inside the top-10 at +20 (164) for the two days. Kelowna's own Rebecca Reitsma would finish not far behind following back-to-back rounds of 82. Samantha Copeland. (+24) and McKenna Lesiuk (+30) both had scores count over the two days as the women played their most consistent golf of the season to date.
Sukriti Harjai of Victoria would take home the individual title on the women's side after rounds of 76 and 76 (+9) while her teammate Rhiannon Jones finished runner-up at +13.
The Thanksgiving weekend tradition was opened up by a par-three contest on Monday morning at Cordova Bay's Ridge Course that featured three university golfers paired up with one golfer from the Vikes Junior Golf Tour. The Heat's Samantha Copeland was part of the winning team at nine-under-par for the nine-hole tournament.
This marked the final event of the fall schedule for the women's squad as they'll look to sharpen up their games over the winter break for the spring season.
